City of Lancaster Corridor Improvement Projects Make Great Progress, Avenue I Next to Receive $2.3 Million Enhancements
This transportation improvement project is partially funded by L.A. Metro
As part of the City of Lancaster’s ongoing commitment to improve every City street by 2025, the 10th Street West and Avenue K Oasis project and accompanying roadwork is nearly complete. As corridor projects continue, improvements to Avenue I are slated to begin next week.
Beginning April 30, the City of Lancaster will commence construction on a $2.3 million project to improve the Avenue I Corridor between 10th and 15th Street West. The project was partially funded with $744,916 from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), and will include pavement reconstruction, pedestrian enhancements, and the addition of new landscaping, which will bring new life to the popular thoroughfare.
“While we acknowledge the impact these construction projects have on our community, the City of Lancaster is continuously looking to the future and planning for long-term pedestrian and driver safety,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “In advance, we thank our residents for their continued patience and are appreciative to Metro for its generous contribution, which will allow us to enhance the safety, aesthetics and appeal of the Avenue I commercial corridor. These improvements will also help enhance and attract businesses, resulting in a stronger local economy.”
This project is part of the City’s Master Plan of Complete Streets, which works to balance safety and convenience for those utilizing City roadways. The project will include a number of upgrades and modifications. Avenue I will receive many infrastructure improvements including reconstruction of the street, restriping, the addition of bicycle lanes and curb ramp modifications. Additionally, drivers will enjoy the elevated aesthetics of landscaped medians and increased walkability through 6,233 square feet of repaired and new sidewalks.
The project is slated for completion in September 2018. Throughout the project, traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions. Businesses located on this section of Avenue I will remain open during construction. The City of Lancaster thanks its residents and businesses in advance for their patience and cautious driving throughout the duration of the Avenue I Corridor improvement project. Everyone is reminded to be mindful of cones, signage and workers.
