National Night Out Against Crime

  • Date: 08/05/2008 7:00 PM
  • Location: Clear Channel Stadium
    Lancaster, California

On Tuesday, August 5th, 2008, Lancaster’s second annual National Night Out celebration will take place at 7 p.m. (game time) at Clear Channel Stadium. In recognition of America’s Night Out Against Crime, the City is providing information to the public on Neighborhood and Business Watch, public safety, parks and recreation activities, fire safety and more.

National Night Out is a Public Safety awareness event that focuses on engaging the community to take a stand against crime. The goal is to educate citizens on safe practices, to promote awareness and celebrate citizen engagement. Over 150 Lancaster Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch groups are invited out for an evening of family fun with local agencies and sponsors playing a significant role.

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and Target stores. Target has been a national sponsor of this event for four years, partnering with law enforcement to work towards strengthening families and building safer communities. Representatives from the Lancaster Public Safety Office, Lancaster Parks, Recreation and Arts Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Lancaster Target store, and others will be present. These agencies will sponsor booths that provide Neighborhood Watch information and sign-ups, public safety materials, “kidprint,” City classes and activities and other pertinent materials for maximizing safety in the community. There will also be a wide range of displays and attractions, including an appearance by McGruff, the crime fighting dog.

The night’s activities will include a City proclamation in recognition of National Night Out, a Block Captain Barbeque and a JetHawks baseball game. All Neighborhood Watch participants are invited and are offered $5 discounted tickets to the game. The game starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
