Denim Day

  • Date: 04/21/2010 12:00 AM - 11:45 PM
  • Location: Worldwide
    California
Join the City of Lancaster and support the cause by wearing denim on April 21, 2010 – men and women!

Wearing denim became an international symbol protesting harmful attitudes about rape in 1999 after an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans. The justices reasoned that the victim must have helped her attacker remove her jeans, implying her consent. People all over the world were outraged and wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.

On this day we unite against the sexual assault of girls, women, boys and men. We stand in support of survivors and we break the silence to end sexual violence.

On April 21, government employees and private citizens across Los Angeles County and the nation will wear jeans in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
