LMAG Panel Discussion: Collectors and Collecting

LMAG Panel DiscussionPanel Discussion: Collectors and Collecting
Saturday, July 10 at 2 pm at LMAG.

Panelists:
Peter Mendenhall
 from the Peter Mendenhall Gallery,
Billie Milam Weisman from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, and
Nicholas West from the Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery.

This panel discussion brings together varied perspectives on the practice of collecting art. The priorities of the private collector vary from those the museum or institutional collector, and the gallerist has yet a different set of concerns. How does a museum decide what should be included in its collection? What should an individual collector be looking for when considering adding a work to their collection? In the course of the discussion, panelists offer insights into how collections originate; how they are grown and maintained; and how they reflect the personalities, tastes or vision of those who invest so much time and care into them. Admission is free.
