After the event, residents are strongly encouraged to go back into their neighborhoods and engage their neighbors, by hosting events or just enjoying their communities rather than staying indoors.  Neighborhood events can be as simple as a walk around the block with a neighbor or a supervised group play session for the kids, or as full-scale as a neighborhood party or cleanup.  Residents are encouraged to register their events with the Public Safety Office, so that deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff's Station or City officials can stop by to show their support and answer any questions.  To register your neighborhood event, contact the Public Safety Office at (661) 723-6063 or publicsafety@cityoflancasterca.org.

National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime (NNO) is an annual event coordinated by the National Association of Town Watch, a national organization that supports and promotes Neighborhood Watch.  The main goal of NNO is to get residents across the country to take a collective stand against crime by getting out into their neighborhoods and enjoying where they live.  When residents actively use their neighborhoods and engage their neighbors, criminals tend to feel less comfortable about conducting their activities out in the open, making the area safer for everyone.  All residents, regardless of if they are participating in any community activities, are encouraged to leave their porch lights on all night as a symbolic show of support.

Target is the national corporate sponsor of NNO.
