Movers & Makers Opening Reception

From furniture to footwear, ceramics to window coverings, Movers and Makers showcases a wide array of objects by several artists, including: iconic furniture maker Charles Hollis Jones, installation artist David Jang, shoemaker Chris Francis, sculptors Sedi Pak and Lori Cozen-Geller, neon artist Lisa Schulte and  local ceramicist Terry Cervantes. This exhibition opens Saturday, February 11, 2017 with a free, public recepction from  6 – 8 p.m. and will remain on display through Sunday, April 16.

Featured in MOAH’s Main Gallery, the Museum is excited to exhibit the quintisessential furniture of Southern Californian Charles Hollis Jones. At the age of sixteen, Jones founded his firm, CHJ Designs, and quickly became known for his use of Lucite in furniture making – a medium primarily associated with the aerospace industry at that time. Credited with bringing acrylics into the realm of upscale design, Jones’ pieces would eventually make it into the homes of Hollywood socialites such as Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra. Jones has received many awards for his craftsmanship and has been recognized by the Smithsonian Institute for his pioneering use of Lucite.
