Street Beat at LPAC Oct. 3

Audiences won’t be sitting back when you explore the thrilling and dynamic world of Street Beat, a high-energy explosion of urban rhythm, hip-hop moves, astonishing break dance acrobatics and a full evening of original entertainment. The troupe will transform random, everyday items such as a bucket, a trashcan, or a set of rims into solid musical instruments. Audiences of all ages will laugh and dance as they listen in on the same wavelength, finding music and pleasure in what is normally related to noise and confusion.

Street Beat creator, Danish-born Ben Hansen and his 10-member company of drummers, musicians and dancers perform what critics have called an "urbanized journey through percussion," bringing the raw rhythmic originality of many popular street-style performances together into a dynamic and thrilling stage production. Hansen states: “Street Beat’s main objective is to stimulate people of all age groups and encourage them to keep some kind of musical engagement as part of their daily lives. We feel it’s a big part of being human, healthy and having a spiritual connection, and as a way of releasing passion and creative energy.”

In Denmark, Hansen studied music at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, and in 2002, he moved to Los Angeles. He has recorded and performed with Grammy winner Robert Reynolds (The Mavericks); Guitarists Andy Walo (Junior Wells) and Mitch Perry (Edgar Winter); and singers and songwriters Chad Gendason, Matt Salazar (Depswa) and Neil Turbin (Anthrax).
