Deputy Mayor Shawntwyne Cannon
Appointed Deputy Mayor: May 2022
Born in Carson, CA, Shawntwayne Cannon II relocated to Lancaster with his family to pursue greater opportunities. From an early age, Shawn felt a strong inclination to uplift his peers, urging them to shape their community proactively. His personal encounters with social injustices, mainly as they affected educational opportunities, influenced his passion.
An exemplary student, Shawn graduated from Desert Winds High School with multiple accolades, including the Principal’s Award, Senator Scott Wilk Future Leader Award, and The Presidential Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. After graduation, he was appointed as an Avid Tutor for summer school.
Throughout his journey, Shawn has consistently forged bonds with dedicated educators who, often unsung, are committed to guiding young minds toward academic and personal excellence. Shawn's commitment to the community has taken on a new dimension as a parent, envisioning a vibrant environment where everyone's role is acknowledged and respected.
As Deputy Mayor, Shawn ardently represents the underrepresented, striving to redress imbalances that obstruct student advancement. A testament to his dedication, he collaborated with fellow activists and the City Council to establish the Social Equity Commission amidst the global upheavals of the summer of 2020. In doing so, he made history as Lancaster's first Gen Z City official. Shawn has also served as a Field Representative for California’s 21st Senate District and presides as the Antelope Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce President.
Driven by a vision of harmony and progress, Shawn is unwavering in his mission to bridge the community with its local governance, centering his efforts on securing a prosperous future for the upcoming generations.
