Measure YM
Keeping Lancaster’s Tax Dollars Local
What is Measure YM?
Measure YM is a local initiative that proposes to redirect the sales tax funds currently going to Los Angeles County under Measure H, back to the City of Lancaster. This would give Lancaster more control over its financial resources, ensuring local tax dollars are spent on services and programs that directly benefit our community.
How is Lancaster Currently Taxed?
Lancaster residents currently contribute approximately $7 million annually in sales taxes through the county-wide Measure H, a ¼ cent sales tax measure. Despite contributing this amount, Lancaster only receives $1.4 million in return from these taxes.
What Changes with Measure YM?
If Measure YM is approved, Lancaster could retain $7 million annually, instead of the current $1.4 million allocated to Lancaster by the County of Los Angeles. This additional revenue may be used for critical local services, including:
- Public Safety: Enhancing police, fire services, and emergency response.
- Infrastructure: Maintaining streets, parks, and public spaces.
- Community Support: Programs benefiting veterans, seniors, and small businesses.
Why Measure YM Matters?
- Local Control: Measure YM ensures that the funds generated by Lancaster residents are spent on projects that directly benefit Lancaster, rather than being distributed throughout Los Angeles County.
- Improved Services: The additional revenue can provide more funding for essential community services, including safety, infrastructure, and economic development.
- Long-Term Benefits: By keeping these funds within the city, Lancaster can invest in projects that will enhance the quality of life for all residents.
When is the Vote?
Lancaster residents will have the opportunity to vote on Measure YM during the November 5, 2024, General Election. This is a key opportunity for the community to decide how its tax dollars are allocated and spent.
