Fe, fi, fo, fum, five magic beans and a giant – does that sound familiar? The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) presents “Jack and The Beanstalk,” an original musical adaptation of the classic children’s story. What happens when a young boy plants magic beans in his own backyard? For Jack, it is the beginning of a great adventure. With a little help from magic and a vegetarian giant, Jack learns a valuable lesson about true happiness. This musical production also features a host of other characters, including the Magic Harp, Jill, Mother, Milky White, the Farmers, the Merchants, the Circus Performers and the Magic Beans.
The preeminent professional children's theatre company, MCT is the largest traveling children’s theatre in the United States; its performances have delighted and amazed audiences for nearly four decades. Soon a MCT truck will pull into Lancaster with everything it takes to mount a full-scale musical production...except the cast. That's where the children of the Antelope Valley come in. The professional tour team with two directors supplies a set, costumes, props and makeup and holds an open audition casting 50-60 local students. The show is rehearsed throughout a single week, culminating in two public performances. Students have the advantage of learning creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem through participation in this program.
This season, over 65,000 children will perform as part of MCT’s International Tour Project. Its mission statement is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
