Next week’s “Walk with the Mayor” takes place Tuesday, November 17th from 8:00am to 9:00am at Lancaster City Park located at 10th Street West and Avenue K-8. Mayor R. Rex Parris will host his final Walk for 2009, following a productive and engaging year of activities with residents.
“I have been attending the City’s AM Exercise class and early morning walks for 12 years. This year has been a particular joy with Mayor Parris’ presence. Rex is a patient and nice person; he makes you feel very comfortable,” commented Lancaster resident Mrs. Jean Babbitt.
“It is critically important that I communicate one-on-one with the people in this community. We want what’s best for Lancaster. We want to see our City thrive and prosper. It is my commitment to our residents to keep Lancaster a great place to live, work, and play. This is why I am out here as often as possible hearing firsthand the concerns of Lancaster citizens,” stated Mayor Parris.
The “Walk with the Mayor” program provides for ongoing public access to the Mayor, City officials, and City staff, and reinforces the City’s stance on building a healthy community. The weekly walks help participants improve their physical fitness and overall health. The walks also provide an opportunity for residents to speak one-on-one with City officials and staff to discuss important issues affecting them, in an informal and relaxing park setting.
Resident Pam Taggert said, “When I speak to the Mayor about an issue, he listens and takes care of it immediately.” Pam has been a Walk participant from the program’s inception, and says she also enjoys the great friends she’s made as a result.
“This is a fantastic program. I think it is wonderful that our Mayor sponsors the exercise class,” added Nila Ussery of Lancaster.
The group will meet at the Stanley Kleiner building at Lancaster City Park. Residents of all ages are encouraged to participate. Fitness instructor Romina Avery supervises the walks and teaches senior-targeted stretch and tone classes at Lancaster City Park from 9:00am to 10:00am on Mondays through Thursdays.
