Help Make Lancaster a Better Place to Live, Work, Play and Visit

The City of Lancaster offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for citizens who want to get involved and make a difference in their community. Such volunteer work provides valuable work experience; avenues for meeting new people; use of skills to help others; and opportunities for strengthening the community while showing civic pride.

Sometimes people underestimate the value of their time and skills. Even an hour of volunteer work can have a dramatic impact on a project or event. We are always looking to engage the public in what we do. After all, this is their city, and they are the key players in making Lancaster a thriving community.

City volunteers can also learn about local government and the various departments it takes to operate the many services offered to the public. Departments and divisions which welcome assistance include: Administration; City Clerk; Communications; Economic Development; Finance; Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization; Human Resources; Information Technology; Planning; Public Safety; Parks, Recreation & Arts; Public Works; and Risk Management.

The City also benefits from volunteer services by gaining fresh insight, added skills, and cost-effective service with a smile from willing participants who recognize the win-win nature of sharing their special talents with others.

Everyone has something to give. We provide the best service we can every day to our citizens, both as government employees and as members of this community. We invite others to enjoy the gratification we receive in making Lancaster a better place to live, work, play, and visit.

Some of the City events which offer volunteer opportunities in addition to office assistance include: Bark at the Park; California Poppy Festival; Lancaster Museum and Art Gallery; Lancaster Performing Arts Center; Looking Good Lancaster; Martin Luther King Day of Service; Neighborhood Watch; and Prime Desert Woodland Preserve.

Becoming a volunteer not only enhances one’s professional and social skills, but also resonates a feeling of giving something extra of oneself. A thriving community includes an active volunteer base.
