LAP SWIM ETTIQUETTE
Lap Swim: Continuous swimming the length of the pool and back using various swim strokes. The pool is a Jr. Olympic size pool which is 25 yards. Swimming is a remarkably effective workout because it combines three important types of exercise in one: aerobics, stretching, and strengthening. “Simply keeping yourself afloat activates the core muscles in your back and abdomen. During busy lap swim times, swimmers are required to share lanes.
Splitting the Lane: During busy lap swim times, swimmers are required to share lanes. The correct etiquette prior to entering a lane, the second lap swimmer is to get the attention of the first swimmer in the lane and politely announce them entering the lane and designate which side each are swimming. 2 lap swimmers split the lane in half. 1 swimmer swims on the right side at all times, the 2nd swimmer swims on the left side at all times. There is no crossing over the middle of the lane.
Circle swimming: During busy lap swim times, swimmers are required to share lanes up to 3 swimmers. The proper etiquette on entering prior to entering a lane, the third+ lap swimmer is to get the attention of the two swimmers in the lane and politely announce them entering the lane and to let them know they will have to circle swim now. Circle swimming is for 3 or more lap swimmers, sharing 1 lane will always swim on the right hand side of the lane.
