Safer Stronger Neighborhoods
The Safer Stronger Neighborhoods Committee
The City of Lancaster's Safer Stronger Neighborhoods Committee is a coalition of representatives from all City Departments, the Lancaster Sheriff's Station, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. This committee works cooperatively to institute programs, provide support, and make resources available to ensure that Lancaster neighborhoods become safer and stronger each and every year.
Events and Programs
Programs in which the SSN Committee is involved include:
- Town Hall Meetings: Gatherings hosted jointly with the Lancaster Sheriff's Station in a specific neighborhood which provide residents of that neighborhood with a forum to address safety-related issues they are facing. These meetings follow a period in which the Sheriff's High-Impact Team (HIT) closely patrols the neighborhood with an emphasis on issues unique to that neighborhood, as identified by residents in surveys completed prior to the HIT Team's activities.
- UNITE Lancaster Program: The UNITE (Uniting Neighbors in a Team Effort) Program offers Lancaster residents the opportunity to come together as a neighborhood and propose a project which will improve their neighborhood in some way, be it aesthetically, socially, or from a safety perspective. Selected projects then receive funding and resources from the City to carry out their proposals.
- National Night Out: A nationwide celebration in which residents and local leaders collectively take a stand against crime.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service: The City's MLK Day of Service program offers residents the opportunity to join with fellow citizens across the country to help achieve King's dream of making a difference through volunteerism.
