The City of Lancaster contracts with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) for fire and paramedic services.  There are currently six fire stations within the City of Lancaster, as well as one in the unincorporated community of Antelope Acres.  Services provided include fire suppression, fire prevention, paramedic response, swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, and more.  In addition, LACFD provides free sandbags and instructions to residents for flooding and erosion control, and conducts numerous Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes each year.

LACFD also operates the Safe House program in Los Angeles County.  All County fire stations (and most other
non-LACFD fire stations within the County) are designated "safe houses," marked by a two-foot placard displaying a bright yellow triangle, where any child or adult in need can go when facing a potentially threatening, dangerous, or abusive situation.  Visit the LACFD Safe House page for more information (link will open in a new window).

For high school students who are interested in a career as a firefighter, LACFD offers an Explorer program.  Young adults 15-21 years of age may apply to participate in a six-weekend, twelve-day Explorer academy during which they will learn firefighting skills, ladder techniques, salvage operations, wildland firefighting procedures, proper use of equipment and breathing apparatus, and more.  There are 22 Fire Explorer Posts throughout the County, with each Post being led by a professional firefighter.  The Battalion 11 Explorer Post is located at Fire Station 117, on 30th Street East next to Tierra Bonita Park.  Post size is limited to 25 Explorers, so contact (661) 946-0471 for more information or to apply, or visit the LACFD Explorers page (link will open in a new window).
