TOD Workshop

The City of Lancaster invites all members of the public to attend a workshop on May 18, to discuss a Zoning Code update for the areas located to the east and to the south of the Metrolink Station. The changes to City zoning ordinances are aimed at expanding the Downtown Lancaster Transit Village District around the Metrolink Station near Lancaster Boulevard, while creating a more business friendly climate in the area.

“Our goal in adapting the zoning in central Lancaster is to extend the success of The BLVD Transformation into other sections of the City. The new changes will encourage the development of mixed-used properties in these areas, which will provide a boost to the local economy. The update includes, as well as including other features such as new sidewalks and landscaping, making this area more walkable, bike-able, livable and vibrant,” said Mayor Parris.

With a grant from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the City has retained a team of consultants led by Sargent Town Planning to: create a new TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) Overlay Zone for the Planning Area; update the City’s Zoning Map, the General Plan Land Use Map, and the Zoning Ordinance to include TOD Overlay regulations and design standards; and amend the General Plan to extend the existing boundary of the Downtown Lancaster Transit Village. During the workshop, City Planning staff will present initial ideas for the future of the area, and invite the public to share their feedback and input on the proposed changes.

The workshop is open to all members of the public and will be held on Saturday May 18, at Lancaster City Hall in the EOC Room from 9:30-11:30 a.m.  Refreshments will be provided.
